Tiffany Shoop
Director of Special Programs
Tiffany Shoop is the director of special programs at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Tiffany is an alumna of Virginia Tech where she earned her undergraduate degree in communication and political science and her master’s degree from the Department (now School) of Communication. Tiffany joined the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2012 after completing her Ph.D. in communication at the University of Tennessee and serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Mass Communication at Shenandoah University.
At CETL, Tiffany partners with the Global Education Office to provide leadership and professional development opportunities for Virginia Tech faculty focused on being effective and innovative global educators – whether through designing/redesigning study abroad experiences or including global learning into courses at Virginia Tech’s campuses. In collaboration with the Graduate School, Tiffany supports teaching-related professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral associates through her work with the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) Network as well as through the development of local CIRTL programming at Virginia Tech. She also facilitates sessions for the Graduate School’s GTA Workshop and provides teaching-related professional development support for department-level and college-level programs for GTAs and graduate students. In addition, Tiffany manages CETL’s Faculty Teaching Group Grant and Instructional Grant programs.
In her previous roles at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, she coordinated internal and external teaching award programs, collaborated with the Office of First-Year Experiences to support faculty members in the FYE program, developed programs for faculty teaching large classes, and provided faculty support through conducting workshops, mid-semester feedback evaluations, peer observations, and individual consultations. She has also instructed undergraduate courses in the School of Communication and the Department of Marketing at Virginia Tech.
